Special Features at Hendrick House include:
COMPUTER LAB & STUDY ROOMS
Although most of our residents bring their own computers, we do provide a small lab, which offers one computer running the Windows XP OS and two computers running Mac OS X. Color printing is available from the front desk and accessible from your personal computer. Both buildings offer quiet study areas. The dining room is also opened for study during finals.
EXERCISE, RECREATION & TV ROOMS
An extremely well-equipped exercise room is available for fitness conscious students; complete with Olympic free weights, full dumbbell set, flat & incline benches, 2 treadmills, 2 LifeCycles®, 1 LifeStep®, 1 elliptical trainer, a California Apollo 250 Universal Gym, a dip/ab stand, leg press machine, power rack stand, roman chair, and exercise mats. After a good workout, they can hit the recreation room for the ping pong and foosball tables and the television lounge for the house TV and billiards table.
FOOD: ACCLAIMED CAMPUS WIDE
Healthy young men and women are better achievers, and busy students don't have time to prepare nutritious meals, so Hendrick House does it for them! Nutritious and tasty meals include ample servings and a variety to tempt every appetite, including strictly vegetarian. Hendrick House food service is acclaimed campus-wide not only for the excellent meals provided at Hendrick House but also for its food preparation at many of the Greek houses and other organization around the UIUC campus.
HOUSEKEEPING & LAUNDRY
In addition to maintaining the common areas of Hendrick House, our full time housekeeping staff also visit your room weekly for cleaning. They vacuum, take out the trash, clean and disinfect your bathroom, add toilet paper and do light dusting. Laundry facilities are available in each building, and are connected to the Internet!
PARKING
On-site parking for cars, motorcycles and bicycles is available for an additional
fee. Information regarding parking is mailed each summer to our incoming residents
detailing cost and instructions for sign-up. Generally, we have a sufficient
number of spaces for students who inquire on move-in day.
RESIDENT ADVISORS
Full-time RAs are graduate students or upper-classmen who are well-versed in advisory techniques and who assist students with academic and non-academic problems.
SOCIAL FUNCTIONS & INTRAMURAL SPORTS
HH residents regularly enjoy house social functions which vary from barn dances to theater trips to ski trips and other events. Intramural sports also provide residents with a competitive challenge and relaxation.
TELEPHONE & CABLE TV
Other special features include free local telephone service and free basic cable. All students have access to the television lounge for the house TV.
TUTORING SERVICES & SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS
Concerned that HH residents derive maximum benefit during their academic career at UIUC, Hendrick House provides tutoring services for any courses which may be troubling a resident and offers financial awards to high achieving students each semester. HH consistently records one of the highest house grade point averages on the UIUC campus. A $1,000 annual scholarship is also awarded to a returning resident based on academic achievement, financial need and contributions to HH residential life.
EXTRAS
Optional items are charged separately so students who do not wish these features are not charged for them. Optional features are paid on arrival in August. These include parking at $480 per academic year, motorbike/motorcycles parking, $120, and a bicycle room key, $80. High-speed internet and basic cable service are now free!
